Turkey Bacon Water Chestnuts are slightly crispy, slightly sticky and oh-so-delicious! They are perfect for a party appetizer as they are quick to make; and, they reheat well.
Ingredients
- 1 Pkg of Hayter’s Farm Turkey Bacon
- 1 Can of Whole Water Chestnuts
- Toothpicks – Ensure that you pre-soak them for at least an hour.
- 1 Cup Ketchup
- 1 Tbsp Brown Sugar
- Black Pepper
- Optional: Garlic Powder, Mustard Powder, Hot Sauce etc for the Sauce
Method of Preparation
- Preheat oven or air fryer to 350F.
- Drain the water from your soaked toothpicks.
- Drain and Rinse your Water Chestnuts.
- Take the Hayter’s Farm Turkey Bacon out of the packaging, and dab any extra juices from the bacon. Cut each slice of bacon in half lengthwise so that each piece turns into two long strips.
- Take one piece of your cut bacon and wrap it around the water chestnut. Secure with a toothpick. Continue until all of your ingredients are used up, placing your chestnuts into a greased oven proof pan as you finish each one.
- Put the water chestnuts (without the sauce) into the oven or air fryer for about 10 mins or until you see them start to crisp up.
- While the chestnuts are in the oven, mix the ketchup, brown sugar and black pepper. This is where you could add other ingredients such as garlic, hot sauce, mustard powder etc.
- Bring the chestnuts out of the oven and drain any juices from the bottom of the pan. Then, slather the sauce over the chestnuts, ensuring they are well coated.
- Put the chestnuts back in the oven until they reach the level of crispy of your desire. Serve immediately.
Makes 20 or so chestnuts.
